Business Outcome

A deck with a coherent argument from the first draft, instead of slides that need restructuring after content is already written.

Workflow Overview

PowerPoint
Copilot

Step 1: State the audience and the core messagePowerPoint

Open Narrative Builder from PowerPoint's Copilot pane and give it a short, specific brief — the actual audience (not just "leadership," but which team and what they already know), the one belief you want them to walk away with, and a rough slide count or time limit.

A vague brief produces a generic structure that still needs the real thinking done in step 3.

Step 2: Let Copilot propose the structureCopilotPowerPoint

It proposes an ordered set of topics — the point is to argue with the order before any slide content exists, when changing it costs nothing.

Prompt idea:

Build a narrative structure for a 12-slide deck to the leadership team, arguing we should shift budget from paid acquisition to retention next quarter. Propose the topic order and the one key takeaway per slide.

Step 3: Reorder and cut before drafting contentPowerPoint

Add, remove, or reorder topics directly in the outline — this is the cheap editing pass, before any real slide content exists to redo.

Step 4: Generate content only after the structure holds upCopilotPowerPoint

Once the outline argues the case cleanly on its own, let Copilot draft the actual slide content against it.

Check the work

  • Read the outline as a standalone argument — if it doesn't make the case without any slide content yet, fix the structure before drafting content.
  • Confirm every claimed takeaway is something you can actually back up with data.
  • Check the deck length still fits your actual time slot once content is added.

Expected Outcome

A slide-by-slide outline with topics ordered into a clear narrative, ready to be filled in with content.

AI is the right call here

Ordering topics so the deck argues a case — not just lists facts — is a narrative judgment call, exactly the kind of thing worth getting right before any slide content exists to redo.
